New Business:
a. Linda Manzo, Evendale Recreation Department
- For 2013, changed from printing a calendar for the entire year, to just placing the monthly calendar in the village newsletter and in the Adult Gathering Room. This allows for more flexibility in the program schedule.
- A copy of the 2013 Founder’s Pavilion schedule was distributed. Depot Deli will be handling concerts concessions this year.
- Joy Tour and Travel is working with Linda on several day-trips and several multi-day trips for 2013. This allows greater opportunities for our members including a trip to the Red’s Game on Sunday, July 21st. Working with Joy Travel gives the village an additional level of liability as well as chaperones for overnight trips.
- Monday game night has expanded from two Mondays a month to every Monday evening. Wii Bowling on Fridays has about thirty players now. Pickleball and the card game “Golf” are also being tried this Spring.
- Linda is working on additional programs for patrons in their twenties, thirties, and forties which may include a trip to a Red’s Game, concert or play at the Pavilion in the Fall.
- The village is now a member of the Creative Aging Program which allows for a wide variety of entertainment and entertainers.
b. Results from accessibility audit by Recreation Accessibility Consultants, LLC
- David received the results late yesterday and is still reviewing; he will have a definitive report next month. John McGovern, whose organization did the report, will also be here next month. One result we are already aware of is the need for the lift to be pool side, and ready to use, during all hours of pool operation. David will generate a summary for the next meeting.
Old Business:
a. Lifestyle Essentials – as noted in the packet
b. Bike Master Plan
- The UC Master’s program presented their analysis of the CACC bike plan and will continue working on the project this Fall semester.
- URS will complete their portion of the project by next month.
- The May 8th edition of the Community Press newsletter had an article about the project.
Director’s Report:
- At the June meeting, John McGovern, Cary Belyea (SwimSafe Pool management) and Kristen Maiden will be here.
- Swim team starts practice on May 20th; and the pool opens to members on Saturday, May 25th.
- Tim Fortner, Evendale resident and Eagle Scout candidate, has received his certification as a Level 1 Archery Instructor this weekend. Equipment, for all levels, has been ordered. The equipment will be for indoor or outdoor use.
- Raffel’s Catering will be our food vendor for July 4th.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
- Attendance has been approximately 25 kids or so each week.
- The trips are becoming more balanced between boys and girls; but are still mostly girls.
- Awards night was fun, as usual.
- Upcoming events include a trip to Gatlinburg; a pot luck dinner; and volunteering at Griffin Preserve Clean-Up Day.
- The Concession Stand, with its new cash register, opens May 25th. Prices are very similar to last year.
Open Discussion:
- Gorman Farm allows dogs to be in the meadows if no farm animals are there; and the dog must be under control by its owner.
- The Fine Arts Exhibit was another success.
- At the tennis courts, the fencing on either side of the covered sitting area was losing it paint, so it has been replaced. Hopefully in the Fall, other sections of fence will be replaced. After twenty plus years, they are looking worn also.
- The Evendale Community Shred Event will be this Saturday from 10am – 2pm. by the Administration/Police Department Building.
- Griffin Preserve Clean-Up Day is this Saturday, from 9am – Noon. Rain-out date is May 25th (note: clean up moved to June 22nd). Crossroad Church has volunteers coming to Gorman Heritage Farm. The church has contacted Wayne, and Central Tool Rental, about equipment use for work being done at Gorman.
- June 12th is the Chambers annual Fire House Chili Lunch. Tickets should be available through Phi shortly.
Motion to adjourn made at 8:24am by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Pamela Meyers. Motion approved.
